Furniture Bank

Mission Statement

Furniture Bank collects and distributes donated furniture and other household items to assist a wide variety of persons in Toronto who are in need.

Our clients are individuals and families who are leaving shelters or hostels, are refugee claimants, or are otherwise homeless. They are referred to us by over 150 registered agencies in the city.

We strive to meet our objective of reaffirming faith in the innate dignity of each member of the human family and to acknowledge the right of every person to his or her basic needs for sustainable living.

Nature of Work

Qualified clients make an appointment to come to our warehouse, where they are helped by a volunteer to choose the items they need. We do not charge our clients for the furniture they receive.

We also need volunteers to help move furniture around in our warehouse, sort and fold housewares, bedding and linens, repair furniture, and help with general office tasks.

Remuneration

No

Other Details

We are currently looking urgently for client helpers for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings.

We need volunteers Monday to Friday, 9-5, and Saturday mornings.

Most volunteers give us several hours per day, one or two days per week.
