Our Lady's Missionaries

Our Lady's Missionaries

Mission Statement

We, the sisters of Our Lady's Missionaries, are an international congregation of women religious. We make public, perpetual vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. We live in community and share life with the poor in countries outside of Canada and the United States. Our congregation was founded in 1949 in Alexandria, Ontario by Fr. Dan MacDonald who in gratitude to those who first shared their faith in Canada, wished likewise to send missionaries to other lands.

Nature of Work

We enter into the life of the local church, we usually assume roles that are secondary and supportive while sharing the Good News of Jesus through our commitment to charity, justice, freedom and peace.

We work with the marginalized, the non-evangelized and those who are denied their human rights. We are present to them by receiving them with hospitality and reaching out with compassion.

Our sisters are involved in the following ministries: Health education with adults and children. Prevention programs in areas where malaria, night blindness, and other tropical diseases are endemic. Bible education, using drama as the main media. Visiting the sick, especially people with AIDS, in their homes as well as in hospital as chaplains. Offering support to landless farmers in their struggle for the use of land. Accompanying homeless children, youth, adults. Support for physically and mentally disadvantaged. Campus, parish, and prison ministry.
