The Development Group of Pamparomas

Purpose
The Development Group of Pamparomas is a local grass-roots organization working towards a sustainable and self-sufficient development in partnership with the population of Pamparomas. The main objectives of the D.G.P. are:
- To improve agriculture, which is the economic and cultural base of the District of Pamparomas.
- To promote the status of women, incorporating aspects such as income, autonomy, health, legal rights, and education.
- To promote ecology and environmental awareness.
- To promote health and education.
Nature of Work
Individuals are able to work in agriculture, women's promotion, healthcare, tourism, or project design and coordination. Individuals are able to design their own projects and work program according to their interests and abilities. As well, individuals are expected to work as part of a team, collaborating with other projects.
Placement
Volunteers will be based out of Pamparomas, a village 400 kms. north of Lima, and is situated at 2700 meters above sea level on the western slopes of the Andes mountains. The village of Pamparomas itself contains 500 inhabitants, and the D.G.P. works in the 42 surrounding villages, some of which are accessible by road and others by foot path.

Requirements
The G.D.P. are in search of individuals who are:
- Excited about the culture of Pamparomas and open to learning from it.
- Dedicated to learning Spanish and some Quechua.
- Motivated to work as part of a team as well as coordinate their own projects.
- Able to adapt to simple living conditions.
- Are in good physical condition.
Other Details
Preparation or Training Available: Dependent on the area of work that the volunteer selects.
Finances: Volunteers need to raise the airfare to and from Peru, as well as $400 (Can.) per month of stay.
