Romero House


Purpose
Romero House serves the needs of refugee claimants awaiting their tribunal hearing. It provides accommodation in four residences and provides a wide range of services from advocacy to counselling, to the many liaison activities with agencies, committees, schools, etc.
Nature of Work
Advocacy, accommodation, counselling, liaison, community building.
Typical volunteer projects: Community development, community organizing, education, English teaching, grassroots organization, homelessness, housing, human rights, income generation, legal aide, micro-enterprise, public policy, reception, refugee relief, repairs, research, social services, social work, translation, tutoring and youth ministry.

Time Frame
Beginning date: September 1st. (Alternative might be negotiated.)
Length of commitment: One year.

Requirements
Adults, preferably with experience in solidarity work. Live-in program for volunteers. Flexibility and community consciousness a must.

Room, board and $125.00 per month.
