About Search Features

    1. What is the difference between Quick Search and Advanced Search?

Quick Search allows you to search for any keyword within an organization’s listing – for example, “teach” or “Costa Rica”. Quick Search tends to return better results when only one word is entered. Advanced Search is similar to Quick Search, but it also allows you to narrow your search through geographic areas and time commitments.

    2. How many words can I use in Quick Search?

Any number of words can be entered. However, the more words, the fewer the results. This is because the Quick Search is a simple keyword search. Generally it works best with one word, e.g. “healthcare” or “Thailand”.

    3. How many words can I use in the third box of Advanced Search?

Same answer as above for Quick Search.

    4. My search keeps coming back without any results. Am I doing something wrong?

You may have entered too many criteria. If you are using quick search at the top of the pages, try to enter fewer words or different but similar words. If you are using the advanced search, try to enter fewer words or different but similar words or no keywords at all.

    5. I’d like to work in a specific country. How do I find out which organizations work there?

In the quick search box at the top of the page or in the keywords box on the advanced search page, enter the name of the country. If an organization mentions the country in its listing, you should receive a result. Alternatively, you may need to contact organizations to determine if they operate in a certain country.

    6. Can I bookmark my search results?

The current search method does not allow visitors to bookmark specific searches. We may offer this functionality in the future. In the interim, you could save the results page to your desktop for future reference. To do so, click on File > Save Page As at the top of the browser.

Here is the paper version of the personal profile form. (Please note that it is a Microsoft Word document that opens in a new window)
